O guitarrista britânico Jeff Beck morreu na terça-feira aos 78 anos, após ter contraído meningite bacteriana, anunciou hoje a sua família.

“Em nome da sua família, é com profunda tristeza que compartilhamos a notícia da morte de Jeff Beck. Depois de contrair repentinamente meningite bacteriana, ele faleceu pacificamente ontem (terça-feira). A sua família pede privacidade enquanto processa esta tremenda perda”, refere um comunicado divulgado quarta-feira no site oficial do músico.

Considerado um dos maiores de todos os tempos, Jeff Beck ganhou destaque como membro da banda Yardbirds em 1965, substituindo Eric Clapton, tendo depois por conta própria iniciado uma carreira a solo que incorporou hard rock, jazz, funky blues e até ópera.

Jeff Beck ganhou sete Grammy com as suas performances na guitarra e em 2011 foi eleito o quinto melhor guitarrista da história pela revista norte-americana Rolling Stone.

Recentemente, fez uma série de espetáculos com o ator Johnny Depp, de quem era amigo, para divulgar “18”, álbum que fizeram em parceria.
